  Netcomm NB1300 with USB for Windows 98  
 

Notes before we begin:
• This guide is applicable to Microsoft Windows XP.
• You do not need to load the Netcomm software CD.
• Please ensure you have an installed network card. If you are unsure how to install your network card please contact the manufacturer or your PC supplier/vendor.
• You will need your Pacific Internet adsl username and password.

Setup Guide:
1. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the back of the modem, into the port marked “LAN”. Plug the other end into your network card. Your network card is usually located in the back of your computer.
2. Plug the power cable into the modem and turn the power on.
3. Close any programs you have running at the moment so you are on your desktop.
4. Click the “start” button and select “run”.

5. Delete anything typed in this “run” box and type in “inetwiz” (without the quotation marks). Click “Ok”. This will bring up the Internet Connection Wizard.

6. Select “Connect using my Local area network (LAN)” and click “Next”.

7. Untick anything ticked on this windows and click “Next”.

8. Select “No” on this window and click “Next”.

9. Click “Finish”.

10. Click on the “Start” button located in the bottom left hand corner of your screen.
11. Click on the “Settings” option. If you do not have this option, ignore this step and move straight on to the next (step 12). If however you do have settings, double click “Network Connections” icon. This will display a listing of connection icons. Go onto Step 15.

12. Double click on the “Control Panels” icon.

13. Double click on the option “Network and Internet Connections”.

14. Double click on the option “Network Connections”. This will display a listing of connection icons.

15. If you have an installed network card you should see at least one Local Area Network Connection or LAN connection. An example is displayed below.

16. If you have more than one you will need to locate the one that represents a connection with your network card. You can rule out any connection that is labelled “1492” as this is not going to be the icon we are after. On any remaining LAN connections, right click and select “properties” in the drop down menu.

17. You will notice at the top of this properties window there will be a section saying “Connect using”. The text after this will contain the name of the device you have selected. If this is your network card you have located the correct LAN connection so click “Ok”. If this is not your network card then repeat this process for the remaining LAN connections. Below is an example of a LAN connection associated with an Intel Network Card. Please note that there are many different types of network cards, so yours will probably be different. If you are unable to find the LAN connection associated with your network card please consult your PC supplier/vendor for assistance.

18. Once you have located the correct LAN connection, right click the icon and select properties again from the drop down menu.

19. Under the heading “This connection uses the following items” you will see “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”. Highlight this option, by clicking on it once, then click the “Properties” button.

20. Under the “General” tab, ensure there is a dot beside the option “Obtain an IP address automatically”. Further down, ensure the option “Obtain DNS server address automatically” is selected.

21. Click “Ok” and click “Close” on the window behind.
22. Open Internet Explorer. The Internet explorer icon will have a picture of a blue “e” and is usually located on your desktop. If you cannot find this icon on your desktop, click on the “start” button and select “programs” or “All Programs”. This will display a list of all the programs installed on your computer. One of these should be Internet Explorer.
23. In the address bar of Internet Explorer type in “192.168.1.1” and hit the enter key on your keyboard.
24. You will be prompted for a username and password to login to your modem. Type in the username: admin and the password: password then click “Ok”.

25. This will take you into the Netcomm’s One page Configuration screen.

26. Enter your Pacific Internet adsl username and password into the “Username” and “Password” fields. Don’t forget, your adsl username will end with “@dsl.pacific.net.au” and will be in lowercase. For example: john123@dsl.pacific.net.au.

27. The rest of the settings on this screen should all default to the correct values. This means you should not need to change any. However it is best that you double check these settings with the picture above in step 26.
28. Click the “Submit” button.
29. Click on the “Save Setting and Reboot” button on the left hand menu.

30. Click on the button “Save & Reboot” that appears on the right hand window. This will save your settings and your modem will reboot itself.

31. The next step is to plug one end of the telephone cable into port marked “DSL” on the back of the Netcomm. Then plug the other end into the wall socket of the telephone line setup for adsl. Ensure all telephone devices that share this line have adsl in line filters installed on them.

Your Netcomm NB1300 is now configured and should automatically connect you to the internet. Try opening Internet Explorer and typing in a website into the address bar. If you are unsure of what page to type in, try http://www.pacific.net.au
